This workshop will discuss issues relating to transitioning from school to adult life, identifying outcomes, and developing goals as part of the IEP process. Parents and students will become knowledgeable regarding resources in the community in order to build linkages and ensure a dignified life as contributing citizens.

As we approach the final days of the school year, join fellow parent leaders for a discussion of your SEPAG successes and challenges and how you can finish the school year strong.
The presentation will provide an overview of the IEP process, describes the legal requirements for Least Restrictive Environment
This workshop will review the IEP process with specific focus on the Legal requirement of Least Restrictive Environment. Will discuss the value of Inclusion for ALL children and provide Strategies to help include students with special needs in general education classes.
Family Engagement in Literacy: Practice Building Key Literacy Skills
When parents are looking for ways to support their child’s reading at home, it is useful for them to know the key early literacy skills in an easy-to-understand way. This session defines the foundational skills of literacy and provides hands-on examples to show parents how they can engage their child at home in learning the skills while also making reading fun.

Únete en persona y descubre estrategias y recursos proporcionados por SPAN. Habrá una variedad de expositores con información útil. Parents and caregivers (who can attend separate tracks) must accompany the conference with their young adult/youth. SPAN does not provide support to individuals, but they are welcome to provide their support person.
This workshop focuses on the right to services and accommodations for students with disabilities and special health/emotional needs who may not be eligible for services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) for special education.
Training Objectives
This session is designed to help parents and families
1. Gain a clear understanding of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and how it can support children with communication needs.
2. Explore the different types of AAC and discuss how families can use these supports during everyday routines at home, in the community, and in school.
3. Understanding what AAC is, how it works, and how it can help their child’s communication
Better understand the functions of behavior
Increase knowledge of positive behavioral interventions and supports
Learn strategies that encourage/increase desirable behavior
