Supporting your child with challenging behaviors across settings can be difficult. Children want to do well and be successful, but academic, behavioral, and social expectations can overwhelm students with mental health, emotional, or behavioral needs and increase unwanted behaviors. All children have the right to an education, even when behaviors get in the way. Join us for this workshop to discover information and resources to help address these challenges, think about your child’s behaviors in a new way, and learn how to improve your responses to those behaviors with positive support and interventions. If an ASL interpreter is required, please notify workshops@pacer.org at least 48 hours prior to the workshop. We will do our best to accommodate your request.

This is an 8-week seminar that includes the content of four of our most popular workshops: Introduction to Autism, Hacks, Strategies, and Supports, Understand Masking, and Understanding Burnout, with the added benefit of community and discussion. While these workshops are typically delivered “webinar style,” this group will include a community of others looking to dive into and reflect on the content. Sessions will alternate between presentations and deep discussion. This group is great for someone who is just uncovering an autistic identity, someone new to AANE, someone who has attended these presentations previously, and is looking for deeper exploration, or anyone looking to discuss these concepts in depth.

This multi-session support group offers autistic adults a space to explore the relationship between masking and autistic burnout. Participants will discuss how social expectations, sensory overload, executive functioning challenges, and chronic stress can affect energy, identity, relationships, and daily life. Through facilitated conversation and personal reflection, the group will examine why people mask, how masking may become automatic, and how identity, culture, work, education, and safety can shape decisions about masking, unmasking, and disclosure. Participants will also identify signs and contributors to burnout, reflect on personal patterns and triggers, and share strategies for reducing demands, managing sensory needs, setting boundaries, practicing self-compassion, communicating needs, and accessing support. The group will emphasize that there is no single correct approach and will support participants in finding strategies that fit their individual circumstances and values.
