Understanding Manifestation Determination Reviews (MDRs): Preparing, Participating, and Following Up - This brief session will provide parents and caregivers with a clear understanding of what a Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) is, when it is required, and how it protects students with disabilities during disciplinary actions. Participants will learn how to prepare for an MDR meeting, including what information to review, who to invite, and how to document connections between a child’s disability and the behavior in question. Individualized Education Program (IEP) team meetings can be challenging when a child has complex mental health needs. This workshop will help parents prepare for a positive meeting to support their child’s mental health needs in school. It will include a discussion of an example IEP and explore what each section means, what parents need to know, questions to ask, and how to advocate for changes. Participants will also develop a greater understanding of what positive supports and interventions are available and how to navigate disagreements.
